Secondary Products › What Are They?
The Secondary Products Department at Aylesford Newsprint markets all the materials from the papermaking process which are not used in the final product; actively diverting materials from landfill and utilising Recycling outlets.
- Paper Crumble
- This is a light fibrous material made up of mainly paper fibres, clays and inks that are removed from the pulp in our Fibre Preparation Plant. Although the majority is burnt in our on site combustor, the remaining paper crumble can be used as a soil conditioner, for land remediation, as a bedding material or in brick manufacture.
- Papermaking Ash
- This is produced by combusting the paper crumble in our on site combustor. The ash is rich in Calcium Oxide and can be used to partially replace Lime or Cement in manufacturing processes. It is primarily used by the Building Industry, particularly block manufacture, but can also be used in applications such as stabilising sludges and soils.
